voip app

I’ve been thinking recently…. shocking I know.

I’m bored so I thought to develop my Java skills I would make a VOIP app (an online talkie to others thing). Based around the idea of having a private network for businesses and stuff. Skype seem to be doing this quite well atm but we’re talking about the people that made Kazaa so we all know that it will all end in tears for anyone who becomes dependant on their software.

I will be mimicking the GAIM user interface for it using SWT in Java (it’s a pretty and fast User Interface library). It will do voice, messaging and file transfer. Getting it to work behind routers/firewalls will prove interesting as the only other way is by relaying stuff off an external server which isn’t pretty for the network traffic.

Anyway, I will be making it for Windows, Linux and Solaris or any other OS that supports Java and GTK.

If anyone has any ideas on things they would love to see included in MSN that aren’t etc. Please leave a comment.

Cheers,
JoeJag

belgium!

Just back from Belgium here which to quote Ian Rush: “It’s like living in another country”. First off they have far superior bars with menus of the many beers you can have (One bar boasted 2500, 2004 in stock at any given time) and their pubs don’t close so you don’t get thousands off ejits thrown onto the street at the same time. You go home when you’ve had enough, interstingly Vodka is around £4.50 so it’s out of bounds (cheap in the super market though), although you do get the impresssion that beer is free over there.

Driving is mad as they only just put in “voluntary” driving liscenses so every car comes with battle scars. Other then that it’s just your usual European adventure like 50cl Pints etc. You do realise that the French you learnt at school was merely holiday French: how to order in restuarant, how to get a train ticket. It’s all devised to help you survive the likely circumstances you will find yourself in when you travel abroad. Thankfully everyone in the world seems to speak English (/me tips hat to the yanks for making that so) so you can remain blissfully ignorant as soon as you don’t understand.

google rankings

On a note to other website developers I have started responding on another “Joe Wright’s” blog and since we have both done this our google rank has shot up to being listed in the top 10 results. Maybe it’s to do with the name and the cross-linking, but essentially it has propelled us up google in what I can only call a hack, probably the best google hack I’ve discovered in a long while!

Oh, and on the images front I found this on google images:
